ConsenSys Blockchain Raised $200 Million and Becomes a $3.2 Billion Unicorn

SAO PAULO – ConsenSys, an American subsidiary of blockchain, announced on Wednesday(17) that it has raised $200 million in a round of investments, becoming a $3.2 billion rhino.

Among the names that have invested in the company are hedge fund Third Point, Animoca, Coinbase Ventures, and HSBC.

In a statement, ConsenSys said its mission is “to advance the collaborative power of communities, and to make Web3 globally accessible and usable.”

One of the company’s main products is MetaMask, a noncustodial wallet that acts as an app and extension for a web browser, allowing users to hold and manage digital tokens and connect to other blockchain applications.

The tool focuses heavily on Web3, including NFT markets and play-for-profit games such as Axie Infinity (Access), Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs), Decentralized Financial Investments (DeFi) and meta realms.

MetaMask currently has 21 million monthly active users, a 38-fold increase from last year, according to ConsenSys.

Among the company’s other products, the highlight is Infura, which provides the world’s largest set of tools for blockchain developers. The system’s user base has grown 250% in less than a year, to 350,000 developers.
