Spiders have taken over the Gippsland region of Victoria in Australia
. Residents were surprised by the phenomenon that appeared after the area was hit by heavy floods. Information from portal 7 News
.
According to Professor Dieter Hocholi, an ecologist at the University of Sydney, a sea of webs was expected, due to the weather conditions.
“This is a surprisingly common phenomenon after floods,” he said. “When we have these kinds of really heavy rains and floods, these animals that mysteriously spend their lives on land can’t live there anymore and do exactly what we’re trying to do – they move to higher ground.”
According to the expert, the animals responsible for the “balloon” phenomenon are web spiders that usually live in the ground.

“Climb to a point high in the foliage and bring out fine silky streaks that catch the breeze and eventually gain enough lift to carry the spider up farther,” according to the Australian Museum’s website.

At a time, thousands of spiderwebs can produce a wonderful silk carpet, called a web, that covers bushes or fields.”
Local councilwoman, Caroline Crossley, recorded a video of this moment and shared it on Facebook. The post has already exceeded 50 thousand views and caught the attention of Internet users.
