What is the benefit of adding CPF to an invoice?

The Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (CPF) is the personal and individual identification of every Brazilian. Therefore, reporting the CPF on the invoice is a way to allow customer identification for that specific purchase. When this happens, the reason is usually to obtain some type of tax benefit through special state government programs.

In São Paulo and some other states, by informing the CPF on the invoice, the state is able to better control the commerce tax taxes. This is done through the Goods and Services Circulation Tax (ICMS).

To encourage consumers to adopt this practice, the government offers some programs that provide value to taxpayers. Thus, it will be as if a percentage of the tax collection goes back to the consumer. There may be other advantages as well.
