Jerusalem, October 15 (Reuters) – Israel’s communications minister said Sunday he was seeking the possible closure of Al Jazeera’s local bureau, and accused the Qatari news broadcaster of pro-Hamas incitement and exposing Israeli soldiers to possible attacks from Gaza.

Shloma Karhi said that the proposal to close Al Jazeera has been evaluated by Israeli security officials and is being analyzed by legal experts, adding that he will raise the matter with the Cabinet later today.

Neither Al Jazeera nor the Doha government had an immediate comment.

Karhi told Israeli Army Radio, “This is a radio that incites, a radio that depicts soldiers in concentration areas (outside Gaza)… it incites against the citizens of Israel – a means of propaganda.”

He added: “It is unacceptable for the message of Hamas spokesmen to pass through this channel,” adding: “I hope we will conclude this matter today.” It was not clear whether the latest statement referred to the Cabinet discussion or the implementation of the closure.
