CBLOL has not been played in person since the first split of CBLOL 2020, which has been interrupted and forced to go online due to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then, the tournament has been held online, with only two exceptions, in the second Split Finals of 2020, which was held in Sao Paulo, and 2021 in Rio de Janeiro. The last CBLOL playoff in the studio was the 2nd Split of 2019.

Riot Games has planned to do the entirety of CBLOL 2022 in person with the fans. But he had to back down and start the tournament online due to the spread of the Covid-19 omicron variant. Caster’s team only worked out of the new studio, which was ready in 2021 but could not be opened for competition until 2022.

With the number of new cases declining and the transmission of Covid-19, the qualifiers have begun to take place in person, but still without fans. Initially, not even the presence of the press would be allowed, but Riot Games returned and allowed journalists to follow the clashes and participate in the studio’s press conferences, with the option to also work remotely, as happened during these two years.

Arriving for coverage on Friday, reporters had to run rapid tests for the coronavirus, as were the players and other professionals involved in the CBLOL operation. Also, with the exception of players and wheels, wearing a mask is mandatory.

At press conferences, Liberty’s Thiago “Chiari” and miner coach, Iago “Politico”, commented on the dispute head-on.

Kiari recalled the experience he had in CBLOL 2021’s second split decision, when he played the decisive showdown for Rensga against RED Canids Kalunga.

– You played head-to-head in that final. It was my first experience, and I think, now for this new confrontation, I kind of knew what it was going to be, I already knew how to deal, where I had to put my mind. It was a very good experience for me. I loved playing it, I had so much fun. I was very happy to play on stage. It feels really good.

Politico admitted that the miners suffered from the pressure of playing from the stage.

– Although there are no fans, I think it’s from the atmosphere when we leave the house and come here, the whole routine, it’s a completely different atmosphere, it’s different adrenaline. Kind of made some guys nervous, especially my robot lane [rota inferior]. They were in a lot of trouble, which we didn’t do in training. These are things that we unfortunately can manage, but cannot control. Nervousness and fear of player X or Y – said the coach.
