Cartier jewelry, owned by Swiss firm Richemont, has filed a lawsuit in the United States against Tiffany & Co, a French LVMH subsidiary, alleging “unfair competition”.
U.S. brand officials may have tried to obtain information about Cartier’s activities in the United States in an “inappropriate” way, leading the brand to file a complaint through a former employee, he told AFP.
The former employee, who left Cartier to work for Tiffany, has been named in a lawsuit filed in a New York court.
“Cartier fully respects the right of its competitors to pursue its business objectives,” the Panther brand noted, with its flagship logo. “But in this case, Tiffany’s business ambitions have, as usual, crossed the line between business and unfair competition.”
Named after the Diamonds worn by kings, the jewelry store is the Richmond Group’s most important brand in terms of revenue.
The American brand responded, “Tiffany is formally denying these unsubstantiated allegations and will defend herself.”
