Canadian police said, Sunday, that they are searching for two suspects who killed 10 people and wounded at least 15 others in knife attacks in the Saskatchewan region (central).
The attacks were recorded early in the morning. At about 8 a.m. local time, police issued an alert to residents across the county to stay under cover. Other warning notices were issued in the afternoon in neighboring Saskatchewan provinces in CanadaAlberta and Manitoba.
The Canadian Prime Minister said: “The attacks in Saskatchewan today are horrific and heartbreaking. I think of those who have lost loved ones and those who have been injured.” Justin Trudeau.
Authorities identified Damien Sanderson and Miles Sanderson as suspects and claimed they were riding in a black Nissan Rogue.
At a news conference Sunday afternoon in Regina, the provincial capital, Rhonda Blackmore, chief of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Saskatchewan, said officials did not know if they had switched vehicles.
“Their location and direction in which they traveled are unknown,” Blackmore said. “It is appalling what happened in our county today,” he added.
Blackmore also said that police are still in the early stages of an investigation and are trying to determine the relationship between the two suspects and whether they actually have police records.
According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the attacks took place at various locations in Saskatchewan, including the James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon communities, and 13 crime scenes are being investigated.
Canadian police said some of the victims appeared to have been targeted by the suspects, while others were indiscriminately attacked, according to Reuters.
It is possible that there are other victims, who may have moved on their own to hospitals.
A spokesperson for the Saskatchewan Department of Health said in a statement that the province has requested additional assistance to help respond to the situation.
