Caixa Econômica announces special opening hours for this weekend

During the New Year celebration period, Caixa Econômica Federal (CEF) service points will make significant changes to their opening hours. Starting next Friday (29), bank branches will be closed to the public, to enable them to access services at different times.

Based on the National Monetary Board Resolution 2022, Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays are not considered business days for the purposes of banking operations. Therefore, the agencies that were closed on December 24 and 25 will also stop working on December 31 and January 1, 2024.

On January 2, 2024, daily activities in Caixa branches will return to normal, with full services available to customers. But, do you know the full description of the days affected by New Year's celebrations? see below:

  • December 26, 27 and 28: Normal operation;
  • December 29: There are no banking hours and financial institutions are not open to provide personal service to the public;
  • December 30 and 31: Weekends, branches are closed for service;
  • January 1: World Brotherhood Holiday, branches are closed for service;
  • January 2: Normal operation in places where there are no municipal holidays.

How to make payments during this period?

According to the Brazilian Banking Federation (Febraban), if there are payment vouchers and consumer bills due on the holiday, they can be paid without excess on the next business day. Businesses generally adjust dates according to the holiday calendar, whether federal, state or municipal.

Caixa also offers customers the ability to use the app and digital channels to make payments. The same applies to compensation at ATMs.

“Even during holidays, digital channels and ATMs are available and offer practically all financial transactions in the banking system,” according to a memo from Walter Tadeo de Faria, Deputy Director of Services at Februaryan.

It is important to be aware of and adapt to these changes, and plan to carry out withdrawals, payments and other banking transactions on business days. Although working hours vary, Caixa Econômica Federal ensures that its digital platforms are available for greater customer convenience.
