One of the biggest problems flamingo In the first half, the large number of muscle injuries was in the past. By investing in the scientific sector and a new work methodology, the club eased the crisis in Dubai Municipality and completed two months without any new case of this kind.

The last muscle injury occurred in the victory over Cuiaba, on June 15, for the Brazilian Championship. David Luiz felt pain early in the match and was later diagnosed with a swelling in his right thigh. He missed Flamengo in the next three matches and returned against Tolima away from home with the Libertadores.

Since then, there have been few physical problems at Ninho do Urubu. The most serious injuries were Rodrigo Caillou and Bruno Henrique to the knee. Arascaeta and Diego Ribas had lower back and groin pain, respectively, but neither had an injury.

Other recent manifestations in DM have been due to a viral condition (Thiago Maia and Hugo), tonsillitis (Matheuzinho), pharyngitis (Marinho) and gastroenteritis (Matheus Cunha), as well as an ‘outbreak’ of Covid-19.

A completely different scenario at the start of the season, when the medical department was in the spotlight and was criticized for excessive muscle injuries. But, after all, how did the Flamingo solve this problem?

Arrival of professionals and new methodology

Although complex and involving different sectors of the club, the improvement in the situation coincides with the arrival of two professionals: scientific coordinator Michael Minthorn, who was the club’s advisor at the time of EXOS, and physiologist Tadashi Rara, formerly Atletico. .

Added to this factor is the appointment of Dorival Júnior and the implementation of team rotations: players began to dodge regularly, and thus gained more rest time between matches. The trainer even mentioned injury prevention and a tight schedule to justify this methodology (Read more here).

– We’ve been here for nearly two months and we’ve been without a muscle injury for nearly two months. It is a fact that goes unnoticed, but it is very important. We have an illogical calendar. We are not able to play that many games per year, Dorival said in an interview with FlaTV.

The season to empty the DM and the healthy cast comes at a good time: Flamengo is experiencing the most important moment of the season. With the crucial Copa del Rey, Libertadores and Brasiliao duels – and no time to rest -, Dorival Jr thanks him and pursues a plan to keep the club alive on three fronts.
