The new exchange rate framework, which came into force on the 31st, changes currency transactions in Brazil, abroad (for Brazilians), and the way information is presented to the Central Bank of Brazil.

One of the changes is the foreign travel cash limit per traveler. The amount that was 10,000 Brazilian reals becomes 10,000 US dollars. At the current exchange rate, it is approximately 55 thousand Brazilian reais in the national currency.

This action is the result of Law 14286, which was approved on December 30, 2021. Exchange operations are used to purchase foreign currency on international flights or for foreign trade.

Check out the main changes:

  • Institutions authorized by the BC will be able to allocate, invest and allocate credit and financing operations, in the country and abroad, funds raised here or abroad.
  • It expands the possibility of opening an account abroad and also facilitates the opening of accounts in Brazil by non-residents, proving that they will receive the same treatment as accounts in real for residents.
  • The cash limit increases from R$10,000 to US$10,000 for each passenger leaving or entering the country.
  • There was also a reduction in the rating codes for the purpose of the exchange. Previously, there were nearly 200 people. Now, the rule has changed.
  • Only eight transactions of up to $50,000 USD will be allowed.
