After this shipment is completed, a NAM ship will dock at the port of Rio Grande to unload the donations, which will be taken to rain-affected municipalities. According to the US Embassy, the move expands logistical capacity to transport donations and helps increase interoperability between navies.
Since the disaster began in Rio Grande do Sul, the Brazilian Navy has been working to support the affected areas. So far, it has used 10 ships to transport 400 tons of donations. It also took vehicles, aircraft, equipment and other items.
