The new medical director of the health leader, Dr. Jose Ricardo highlights the importance of early diagnosis when we talk about autism.

“In the early years of life, we have basic infant brain development. For this and other reasons, early diagnosis in children makes a big difference. He commented on the need for awareness, care and the search for specialist guidance.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) includes neurodevelopmental disorders present from birth or early childhood. Early childhood autism, infantile autism, Kanner autism, high functioning autism, atypical autism, pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified, childhood dissociative disorder, and Asperger syndrome.

According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, people on the spectrum may display deficits in social communication or social interaction (such as verbal or nonverbal language and social and emotional reciprocity), restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior, such as persistent movements and interests, and a deficiency or hypersensitivity to sensory stimuli.
