Biden laughs at jokes about his age at a US press event

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has been the target of many subtle jokes at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, taking the opportunity to counterattack with some of his jokes.

Washington’s political and media elites gathered Saturday night in the US capital for an annual event that ranged from traditional comedy jokes to somber phone calls to the release of reporters trapped abroad.

Heading the after-dinner entertainment was Daily Show correspondent Roy Wood Jr., who poked fun at Biden, 80, for running for a second term, which could mean Biden would still be president at 86.

Wood pointed to recent angry protests in France against raising the retirement age.

“They rioted because they didn’t want to work until they were 64. Meanwhile, in America, we have an 80-year-old begging us for four more years of work,” he joked.

Biden has even made some self-deprecating jokes, mostly about criticism of his age while running for re-election.

CNN host Don Lemon was also targeted, who was fired after making sexist and anti-aging remarks on air.

“Call me old,” Biden said. “I call it being experienced. You say I’m old. I say I’m wise. You say I’m over the hill. Don Lemon would say he’s a man in his prime.”
