Before memory loss: Early Alzheimer’s symptoms may appear as early as age 40

Research conducted by doctors at University College London in England concluded that lack of geolocation could be an early symptom.

An investigation by English doctors has found that Alzheimer’s disease may show early signs in people as young as 40, decades before the usual symptoms, such as memory loss, appear.

Research by scientists at University College London, in England, suggests that poor spatial navigation may be one of the key early indicators of the disease, appearing 20 years before the average age of onset of known symptoms, such as memory loss.

The study, published in the journal Alzheimer’s and Dementia in February, involved 100 volunteers aged 43 to 66. Participants wore virtual reality headsets that challenged them to navigate a virtual maze and had their geolocation skills assessed.
