The highlight of the country’s best artisanal production, music and fashion is on the Feira Artesanato da Bahia arriving in Salvador, next Saturday (12/03) and Sunday (13/3), from 3pm to 9pm, at the Museu de Arte Modern Bahia ( MAM). In addition to the diversity and rich creations of the artisans on display, the public will be able to see handcrafted fashion and accessories on the catwalk, on Saturday at 5 pm, in a fashion show signed by Tininha Viana in partnership with Senac. Music guarantees more fun: on Saturday, there is a special performance of the band Geleia Solar, and on Sunday, there is a performance by the winners of Itapuã with the participation of Margareth Menezes. Free admission.
On the shores of Todos-os-Santos Bay, the historic Solar do Unhão will receive diverse products from artisans, reflecting the rich cultural diversity of Recôncavo, Baixo Sul and the El Salvador metropolitan area. Utilitarian and decorative porcelain, lace, various embroideries, such as richelieu and baafunda, braided natural fibers, crochet, and macrame are some of the techniques whose products can be purchased directly from producers.
The realization of the Crafts Fair in Bahia is an initiative to coordinate the promotion of crafts by the Minister of Labour, Employment, Income and Sports (Setre), in partnership with Associação Fábrica Cultural. The event has the support of the Museum of Modern Art of Bahia, the Institute of Artistic and Cultural Heritage of Bahia – AIPAC, the Department of Culture and the National Service for Commercial Learning – Cinac.
Character’s Journey
In addition to Arraial d’Ajuda, Porto Seguro region, where the exhibition was successfully held last weekend, in Salvador, the event is also part of the March do Artesanato programme. During this month, a series of events will be held to celebrate the Day of Artisans and Craftsmen (March 19).
“We started with Porto Seguro, which has a very important meaning due to the recognition of the history of the struggle and resistance of the indigenous communities and their pioneering spirit in Brazilian handicrafts. In addition to enabling the connection of our culture with visitors from different parts of Brazil and the world, the exhibition confirmed all our expectations. We had the richness and diversity of handicrafts produced. Indigenous communities are in a very rich dialogue with contemporary expressions found in the lands of the Discovery Coast and the Far South, says Angela Guimarães, Fomento ao Artesanato curator in Setre Bahia.
“This edition in Salvador is another achievement of the rehabilitation work of Artesanato da Bahia, which Fábrica Cultural has done in the past two years in partnership with Setre. It was an incredible experience, due to the potential of our artisan artists. Since last year, we have already held eight exhibitions in different regions of the state, where we can see the wonders in the production of this handicraft, with the memory of ancestral art. We are delighted with the exhibition at MAM and hope everyone will come to visit us”, invites Margaret Menezes, President of the Associação Fábrica Cultural.
