Atlético-MG notes: Pavón scores a great goal and the defender scares Palmeiras

An unsteady start at Mineirão looked like a harbinger of chaos for Atlético MG against Palmeiras on Sunday (28/5). Poorly defensively, Gallo found a way out in possession of the ball and avoided the worst against the reigning champions. In the end, tied 1-1, from the eighth round of the Brazilian championship.

The big name at Atlético in the match was Argentine striker Pavón, despite his usual lack of temper which earned him a yellow card and a suspension to be met in the classics against Cruzeiro. The winger shone in the fine movement of the game – the brilliant goal that opened the scoring for Gallo in the 32nd minute of the first half.

However, the advantage did not in any way translate what the first 45 minutes were like, from the dominance of Alviverdi and the repeated fears of the defense duo, Atletico MG. Nathan Silva, right, and Khmerson, left, battled Ron’s lead.

In the second half, Palmeiras’ goal scored by the little Dodo, measuring 1.66 meters, revealed the defensive mistakes of the Rooster and brought justice to the scoreboard.

He stole the ball from Gustavo Gómez, made a brilliant dribble on the Paraguayan defender – and on his own Luan – to score the amazing goal that opened the scoring. He will miss the classic match against Cruzeiro, where he will have to comply with a suspension after receiving a third yellow card for complaints.

Nathan Silva and Kimerson: 4.5

In the past and more recently, they have already shown a lot more football than on Sunday night against the speedy Palmeiras attack. They stumbled several times in the first half and a millimeter block save nullified Rooney’s brilliant goal. Safer, they improved on the final stage.

Atlético-MG’s best player can do little against the Palmeiras defense. He went, even moved – especially from the center to the right – to look for spaces, but could not find them in the face of Gomez’s strong marks. In big matches, Atlético-MG relies on him a lot to get results.

Regular work of a sports coach. Although Jemerson and Nathan Silva came from good games, picking slower defenders against the speedy Palmeiras attack was a risk. He adjusted the team in the final phase – despite the conceded goal – and in the end, led Atlético MG to a natural result against the mighty Palmeiras.
