Athlete from Bedim creates crowdfunding to study in US; Know how to help

Lorraine Myra, 26, of Belem, is making a big dream of studying abroad come true. A footballer for two decades, she received a sports scholarship to study mining engineering at an institution in Arizona, USA.

The graduation in the US territory will be a continuation of the course he started in Brazil. However, to complete this venture, the young woman needs help with travel expenses. “There, I would pay all the expenses, but here, I have to pay the student visa fee, health insurance and plane tickets”, says the athlete.

Not to miss the opportunity, Lorraine decided to call in reinforcements: she created an online crowdfunding to raise the amount she needed (R$ 7,500). The trip is scheduled to take place in January 2024. “I’ve been trying to get a scholarship to study abroad for a long time, but something always went wrong and I crashed,” says the young woman.

Living in the Santa Innes neighborhood, Lorraine started playing soccer at the age of 6, still jokingly, at her grandmother’s house, along with a cousin. At the age of 11, he entered a football school and his desire to become a professional became even stronger.

Today, she is part of the team of Marquense Futebol Club, the first team to become the women’s champion in the city in 2018.

The young woman’s ball skills were recognized by foreign coaches who examined the video she sent to apply for a scholarship to the University of Arizona. After scoring that big goal, Lorraine dreams of scoring internationally. “Since it’s a sports scholarship, I have to play football, but I need good grades to keep the scholarship”, explains the player, who will spend at least six years in the United States, two years in college and the other four in university..
