The President of the White House opened the Summit of the Americas by talking about democracy, immigration and economic partnerships
247 – US President Joe Biden highlighted in his inaugural address at the Summit of the Americas on Wednesday (8) that democracy is in danger worldwide.
“Democracy is the hallmark of our region. (…) And since we meet again today is a time when democracy is under attack around the world, let us cooperate, once again, to renew our conviction that democracy is not merely the defining and defining feature of our American stories, but an essential component of our future. as Americans.”
Biden also suggested a discussion about “safe and orderly” immigration into the country. The White House chief said safe and orderly immigration “is good for all of our economies, including the United States” and can be a “catalyst for sustainable development.”
Biden also announced the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity, which will build on the same core values of his administration to enhance the long-term economic competitiveness of the United States. “The top-down economy doesn’t work, but when we invest in empowering workers and the middle class (…) that’s how we can increase the opportunity to reduce persistent inequality. We need to break the cycle in which marginalized communities are hardest hit by disasters. And they have the least resources to recover from the crises and crises ahead.”

Partnership is divided into five main points. The first is the rebuilding of regional economic institutions, especially the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), followed by job creation with a shift to green and renewable energy. In addition to these two, it aims to increase the resilience of supply chains, improve public services and increase regional foreign trade.
