The U.S. Census is no longer a countless Smith & Johnson count. Today, it is more likely to include other family names such as Lee, Zhang and Nguyen.
The government counts everyone living in the country every ten years. This list of residents was created primarily for the purpose Nomination to Congress, It highlights the changing population of the country.
Each census shows more variants in the list of most common surnames in the United States. In general, Smith, Johnson, Williams, Brown and Jones are important. But the most common Asian name – Lee – is ranked 21st in the United States and Nguyen 38th.
Between 2000 and 2010, the fastest growing family names in the top 1,000 were mostly from Asia. U.S. Census Bureau*. I.e. 111% more jangs, 93% more liz, 66% more lius and 63% more cones. (The 2020 census analysis was delayed due to the epidemic, but this trend is expected to continue.)
Asian Americans, not ethnicities, accounted for 5.9% of the U.S. population in 2010 and 3.6% in 2000. Along with Zhang, Li, Liu and Khan, the family names of Wang, Huang, Lin, Sing, Chen, Patel and Wu were very widespread from 2000 to 2010.
“We are becoming a very racially diverse country, especially among younger people,” said William Frey, a population researcher at the Brookings Institution and author of the book. The Immigration This is part of an increase in diversity as more Asians and Hispanics are migrating to the United States than any other group, Frey said. Frey said the higher birth rates among Asians and Hispanics (associated with non-Hispanic whites) are very different, especially among the younger generation.
“We have a young population that adds energy to our staff,” Frey said. “They are the children and grandchildren of immigrants. (…) Open and acceptable to the global connections we need.
Peter A., a former Rand Corporation Democrat and now president of Morrison & Associates, says immigrants and the various populations that come from them are part of American history. Morrison said.
His home in Nandaket, Massachusetts, is home to the dynamic community of Nepal, while there are many Indians working in the technical fields in the Dallas, Texas area, and descendants of Chinese immigrants who opened grocery stores to feed blacks during the slavery period in Mississippi. Says Morrison.
“You get a set of ever-evolving appearances that feed our population with a common class of people – the ambition to leave their homeland and look for a better life elsewhere,” Morrison said.
