“You can not force countries to reject what they consider necessary for their national interests,” said William Ruger, president of the American Institute of Economic Research.
Sputnik Company William Rucker, head of the U.S. Institute of Economic Research, told Fox News that US sanctions on Russia had “fallen on deaf ears”.
As the expert notes, sanctions rarely make countries they target “change their behavior.”
“But you can not force the leaders of the countries to reject what they consider necessary for their core national interests. In the case of Russia, that is the situation in Ukraine,” he said.
According to Ruger, another example of “unintended consequences” as a result of “wrongdoing” is when Russia increases its revenues by selling energy resources under the pressure of sanctions.

The US expert said the sanctions situation was “highly predictable” as researchers had studied the issue for decades and found that such pressure policies often “do not help much”.
“Again, everything is very predictable. We see the usual picture of the current administration [dos EUA] Political decisions, in its face, should benefit American taxpayers or people abroad, but they are actually shooting themselves. “
According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, such actions by the West are aimed at worsening the lives of millions. Sanctions on Moscow have already become economic problems for the United States and Europe, leading to a sharp rise in fuel and food prices.
