Critics of today’s most controversial royal couple must be very pleased with the list of nominees for the 2023 Emmy Award. If only because the furious documentary about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made no nominations for the award, the list of nominees for which was revealed Wednesday-Friday (12).
The six-part series ‘Harry and Meghan’, directed by Liz Garbus and produced by Netflix, has been considered for either the Documentary Series or Non-Fiction Series category. The Emmy oversight is particularly glaring because the series set extraordinary numbers for Netflix, garnering the second-most streamed minutes of any documentary show on the streaming platform, behind only “The Tinder Hustler.”
As a consolation, Harry and Meghan took home the honor Tuesday when they were nominated for the Hollywood Critics Association Awards in the Best Streaming Non-Fiction Series category.
The series premiered on Netflix last December, and caused a stir in the UK for Harry’s outspokenness about the royal family. In one episode, he says that his family exhibits an “enormous level of unconscious bias”, though he notes that it was not the individuals’ fault but a reflection of society. He added, “Once [o preconceito] It is indicated or specified within you, you need to fix it. It’s an education, an awareness, and it’s a work in progress for everyone, including me.”
Prince Harry also said that when his relationship with Meghan became public and British media highlighted Markle’s multiracial background, the palace asked the couple to ignore such coverage.
“As far as most of the family is concerned, whatever they are going through, they have also been through,” said the Prince. “So, it was like a rite of passage. Some family members said, ‘But my wife had to go through it, so why should you treat your girlfriend any differently? Why should she receive special treatment? Why should she be protected?’ And I said, ‘The difference here is the ethnic element.”
“Prone to fits of apathy. Problem solver. Twitter buff. Wannabe music advocate.”
