According to user reports on Reddit and the AFTV News portal, the update has moved the default location of the Fire TV remote control indicator so that it is located in the central banner, which will cause ads to play on it automatically when you turn on the device. Worst: It’s audio-played.
Watch a video recorded by a Reddit user:
Unfortunately, Fire TV doesn’t have an option to turn off ads, you can just turn off autoplay, but the ad image will still take up the entire screen every time you turn on the TV, which is very annoying.
To disable autoplay, go to:
Fire TV Preferences > Featured Content > Autoplay > Off
In this format, the video will be replaced by a slideshow. It’s not the solution we wanted, but it’s better than having an ad shoved in your face every time you turn on the TV.
Currently, users experiencing the change are submitting complaints to Amazon via the Fire TV Feedback Center.
The company has not yet responded to the criticism, but we hope that Fire TV will return to the original experience we have seen since its launch in 2014 without invasive ads.
