AliExpress will start charging a fee for purchases under $50 starting next week

“According to the new Brazilian tax regulations for international purchases, all shipments arriving in Brazil from August 1, 2024 must comply with the new tax rules.” Therefore, due to the time required to amend import declarations, all purchase orders placed on AliExpress from July 27, 2024 onwards will take into account the new tax rules.the platform explains in an email to its customers and partners.

The company also mentioned what the new tax scenario looks like with the implementation of import tax:

“As of July 27, 2024, shipments of products under $500 will be subject to a new import tax (at a rate of 20%), in addition to the ICMS, which is currently levied at a rate of 17% – which must be calculated on the value of the shipment + (import tax). The impact will be approximately 44% on the value of the shipment.”

For orders over $500 and up to $3,000, the import tax will continue to be at 60%, but the legislation provides for a $20 discount on the value of the product.
