Acre, United Kingdom and Germany renew agreements for forest conservation programme

The Acre government renewed the contracts for the second phase of the REM project with international representatives, including representatives from the United Kingdom and the German Development Bank (KfW). The agreement, which was discussed last Thursday (11), aims to implement programs aimed at forest conservation. It will also benefit thousands of rural, riverside, extractive and indigenous producers.

The meeting was held in the boardroom of the Palacio das Secretariat in Rio Franco.

“Acres will guide project implementation, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and benefiting environmental service providers greatly. .

British government representatives Svenja Bunte, REM Program Manager at the UK Department of Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and Louise Hill, Climate Finance Portfolio Manager at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Development (REM and Leaf) were thanked. According to Acre News Agency, the monitoring of the REM Acre Project – Phase II continues till next Saturday (13), with a schedule of visits to the benefited sites to assess the implementation of the projects.

The meeting was attended by Alexandre Dostes, Director of Resource Collection and Monitoring, Acre Planning Secretariat (CEPLAN); International consultants for the implementation of the REM Acres Project – Phase II, together with Elsa Mendoza and Don Pasca from the Earth Innovation Institute (EII) from the GFA Advisory Group.

Jaxilante Araujo, Executive Director of IMC was still there; Head of IMC Regulatory Department, Leonardo Ferreira; German Technical Cooperation (GIZ), representative of Jânio Aquino; and REM Acres Project Coordination Unit Technical Team – Phase II (UCP-REM/Seplan).
