Concert season at the Campenera Academy of Letters and Arts is about to begin. Opening takes place Sunday (22), at 4 p.m., at ACLA Headquarters, in concert that will bring together pianist Allen Alves and cellist Lars Hofs. The duo will present the program “Bach Well Accompended” repertoire, with compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach and Heitor Villa-Lobos. “It is essential to remember that our Villa Lobos has composed very important pieces based on Bach’s music, some of which will be played in concert,” explains Sergio Capone, ACLA President.
North American cellist Lars Hofs is artistic director of the Villa Lobos International Chamber Music Festival, in Southern California, the only Latin American chamber music festival in the United States, as well as a professor at Unicamp. He founded and directed the Unicamp Cello Ensemble, a conductorless cello orchestra made up of his current and former instrument students. Aline Alves has a PhD in Musicology from the University of São Paulo (USP) and a Masters in Music and Piano Performance from Unicamp.
The two musicians will play together again with the same track at five more concerts until the end of June. The next meetings will be on May 26 at 12 noon and June 2 at 3 pm in the lecture hall of the Institut Artes da Unicamp; June 10, 1 p.m., in Casa do Lago; June 24, 8 p.m., in Kay Brown’s room at Escola de Artes Pró Música; and June 25, 3 p.m., at the Carlos Gomez Conservatory.
