Abandoned hallways on the ship get new life thanks to a fan

In 2009, a photo series of the ship appeared Duke of Lancaster She revealed the outcome of the project aimed at turning it into a tourist attraction, which clearly failed.

The photos, which were published 28 Days ago, a website dedicated to urban excavation and pictures of abandoned sites, showed that everything was installed inside the ship, including the famous ship arcadeshas been debunked and neglected for some time.

The galleries, which may have at one time been a dream as the main attraction of a ship, are now unprotected and exposed to the elements.

New home for the arcade

Pictures taken inside the Duke of Lancaster have caused quite a stir among gaming fans. One such enthusiast was Oliver Mozzi, an active member of the UKVAC (United Kingdom Video Arcade Collectors) Forum, a virtual space dedicated to collectors and enthusiasts of arcade games.

After seeing pictures of abandoned arcades, Oliver is determined to acquire and salvage these electronic gaming gems.

Motivated by the possibility of preserving some of the games’ history, Oliver decides to contact the ship’s owner, hoping to negotiate the purchase of the arcades and give them a new home. However, this endeavor was not easy, and months passed before a positive response was obtained.

I spent eight months trying to contact the owners of the place. I finally reached out to them in January 2011. […] So, in February 2011, a couple of antique collectors and I drove what seemed like forever to get to our destination,” Oliver said.

More challenges

After successfully contacting the owners of the derelict galleries within the Duke of Lancaster, Oliver Mowazizi is faced with a new and difficult surprise.

Upon examining the toys, it was found that many of them had come into contact with water, likely due to the time they were exposed on the ship. This discovery posed an additional obstacle to saving and restoring the passages.

After negotiations, an agreement was signed between the seller and Oliver, to determine the value for the purchase of the arcades. In addition, a period of 10 days was set for the removal of parts from the ship. Thanks to Oliver’s enthusiasm, the entire process was filmed and can be watched.

More on the Duke of Lancaster

The Duke of Lancaster is a historic ship located in Mostyn, Wales, UK. Originally built in 1956 as a passenger ship for the Cunard Line shipping company, she was named the Duke of Lancaster in honor of the peerage held by the British monarch.

The ship is designed to provide passenger and vehicle services between the United Kingdom and Ireland. It has the capacity to accommodate more than 1,200 passengers and about 200 vehicles. During her service with the Cunard Line, the Duke of Lancaster was considered a modern, luxurious ship.

However, in 1979 the ship was withdrawn from passenger service and sold to a businessman who planned to convert it into an entertainment centre. The Duke of Lancaster was moved to the town of Mostyn and moored on the River Dee, where it underwent extensive renovation to become a tourist attraction.

Of course, now we already know some of the results of this restoration.
