In an event that can only be described as remarkable and extremely rare, the waters of the United Kingdom have revealed a true treasure. A fisherman from Plymouth Sound in Devon has caught, not the ordinary, everyday lobster, but a very rare blue specimen.
When it comes to odds, catching a blue lobster is about as accomplished as finding a needle in a haystack. The chance is estimated to be one in two million.
Mallory Haas of The Ships Project, a local non-profit organization, expressed her amazement at this marine wonder. In an age when most people see blue crabs only in tanks or aquariums, a completely blue one is an unusual sight.
“I’ve never seen a lobster this blue,” Haas said in a statement. “I saw a few in the tank with bits of blue, which is pretty common, but all blue is pretty rare.”
“The blue comes from a B protein released in the lobster’s body due to a genetic defect that can be caused by environmental factors,” Haas explains.
This deficiency can be triggered by environmental factors, and adds another layer of complexity to the lives of these fascinating crustaceans.
Although we usually associate crabs with their orange color after cooking, they can come in a variety of colors in their natural habitat. oh The Lobster Companyfrom the University of Maine highlights that these organisms are typically orange-brown in color when in water.
