A NASA astronaut needs to be hospitalized after spending nearly 8 months on a mission in space

A NASA astronaut was hospitalized on Friday (25) after returning to Earth from the seven-month Crew-8 mission to the International Space Station (ISS).

“After Crew8 returned safely to Earth this morning from the International Space Station (ISS), the NASA astronaut experienced a medical problem and is still under observation as a precaution,” the American agency stated on the .

NASA did not provide the name of the person who was hospitalized, but Crew 8 returned safely to Earth with four people on board: American astronauts Matt Dominic, Mike Barratt, and Janet Epps, in addition to Roscosmos (Russian Space Agency) astronaut Alexander Grebenkin.

Moreover, the US space agency also did not reveal other details about the health condition of the person in the hospital.

A recent 30-day experiment on the International Space Station revealed the effect of staying in space on human cardiovascular tissue, as microgravity directly affects the functioning of the heart.

But Roscosmos hinted that the person hospitalized was one of the three Americans, as it published a photo of Grebenkin smiling, standing and wearing a blue uniform.

The agency announced on the official Telegram channel: “After a space mission and return, astronaut Alexander Grebenkin feels great!”

Crew-8 launched more than seven months ago, on March 4, 2024, and was the eighth commercial mission between NASA and SpaceX to the International Space Station.

Its goal was to continue scientific research in human exploration beyond low Earth orbit – to obtain more information about health and biology.

Crew-8 is not related to Crew-9, which will return to Earth astronauts who went to the International Space Station with Boeing’s Starliner capsule, and they will only be able to return to the planet in early 2025.
