A government representative escapes with a bill to prevent its approval in Taiwan | world

Amid the unusual exchange of blows in parliaments around the world, the scene caught attention during a fight in Taiwan’s Congress on Friday (17): to prevent a vote on a bill unfavorable to the government, a lawmaker from the base stole the document with the bill and fled.

The scene was recorded on video (look up) It happened during a public fight in the Taiwanese parliament during a vote on the legislative reform proposed by the opposition.

In the scuffle, lawmakers surrounded the seat of the Speaker of Parliament. Some of them jumped on the tables and pulled the other deputies to the floor.

The opposition wants to give Parliament more decision-making powers over the government, including a controversial proposal to criminalize MPs found responsible for making false statements.

The main opposition party, the Kuomintang, has more seats than the Democratic Progressive Party, which won the elections in January. The opposition party does not have enough seats to form a majority on its own, but it has managed to ally itself with the small Taiwan People’s Party to impose its own agenda.

The government party claims that the two opposition parties forced approval of the proposals without the usual consultation process in the House of Representatives, in what they call an “unconstitutional abuse of power.”

Taiwan is an unruly democracy and fighting occasionally breaks out in parliament. In 2020, KMT lawmakers threw pig intestines on the floor of the chamber in a dispute over easing U.S. pork imports.
