Gina Morgan, 76, was approx Victim of a scam After he thought he was talking to the actor Robert De Niro, in the UK. The criminal used the artist’s photo to try to get money. The hoax was not noticed until Shannon Rich, the elderly woman’s granddaughter, discovered the exchange of messages and warned her.
The story begins when Shannon was recording a video for her TikTok profile. On the platform, the young woman constantly posts interactions with her grandmother, who always has a ready answer to questions. This time, the elderly woman appeared claiming to be speaking with Robert De Niro through his Facebook account.
“This is not Robert De Niro,” Shannon says. “So who is he?” the older woman asks indignantly.
Shannon approaches and asks to see the messages, and Jenna reveals that the conversation was too long. The alleged actor sent photos and said he created this account to be “closer to his fans.”
According to the American newspaper New York Post, the scammer was offering the elderly woman the possibility of a “VIP Fan Card”, which promised access to exclusive chats, videos, phone calls and even a visit from the actor, if she paid US$500 (about R$2,558, in the current quote). Of course it was all fake.
In an interview with the newspaper, Shannon said she believes her grandmother would have realized it was a scam, even without warning her. That’s because, according to her granddaughter, Jenna was already skeptical about the photos. “Some people online were worried about her, but my grandmother is smart enough not to reveal personal details,” he said.
