A conversation about the universe on Saturday (17), in Praça da Ciência

Have you heard of cosmology? It is the study of the properties of the universe as a whole. If you would like to learn more about the universe, and would like to learn more about and talk about our cosmic home, this Saturday (17) Praça da Ciência receives, for the first time, an edition of the “Universo no Parque” project.

The meeting will be with Professor Oliver Fabio Piatella to talk about “Introduction to Cosmology”. The activity will take place at 11:00 AM, in the Square unit and no registration is required.

The activity provides a meeting with a researcher who talks about a topic for approximately 40 minutes in accessible language. If you’ve never heard of cosmology before and would like to know what it is, come on! After the presentation, there is free space for questions. It should be noted that sometimes the researcher may fail to explain something in the necessary detail to someone who is not in the area, in which case ask again!

“One of the outstanding projects in the 2022 Action Plan for the Centers for Science, Education and Culture is Shared Science, which aims to implement and support initiatives for the dissemination and popularization of science,” said CCEC Director, Eliane Marques.

project

“Universo no Parque” is a scientific publishing project for the Department of Physics at Ufes, developed by the Center for Astrophysics and Cosmology (Núcleo Cosmo-Ufes) and the Graduate Program in Astrophysics, Cosmology and Gravity (PPGCosmo), with Professors Davy Rodriguez and Julio Fabrice as administrators.

The goal is to bring scientific discussions about the universe to the general public, so that they are disseminated in the community and not limited to the academic environment. The program has been around since 2017, having given a series of lectures in Parque da Pedra da Cebola, Parque Moscoso and Parque da Vale. There has been an interruption between April 2020 so far, due to the problems caused by the pandemic. In the meantime, an online version was kept, which was broadcast on Youtube.
