The cat may behave strangely, as it carries carcinogenic chemicals in its body and fur. The tank contains liquid hexavalent chromium, which causes skin irritation, respiratory problems and even blindness.
The cats' whereabouts are currently unknown. However, Fukuyama City's environmental team said the animal may have already died from its injuries.
Part of the lid covering the chemical tank “flipped over,” Nomura Coatings Factory said. No sightings of the cat have been reported since its escape.
The substance comes in the form of solid flakes or powder, is dark red in color, is odorless, and is completely soluble in water. Chromic acid, also known as hexavalent chromium, is used in the treatment of metal and wood surfaces, the production of magnetic media, and also to obtain potassium and ammonium dichromate.
Officials in Fukuyama, Japan have warned residents to avoid contact with a cat believed to have jumped into a vat of toxic chemicals. The cat was last seen leaving the Nomura Plating Fukuyama factory, paw prints heading away from a vat of hexavalent chromium, a? pic.twitter.com/HQ23yBU6wx
