A ceremony was held on the occasion of the “Day of Science, Technology and Innovation in the Navy” in Brasilia (DF) – Air and Naval Defense

The ceremony marking Naval Science, Technology and Innovation Day, celebrated on April 22, was held on June 2 at the Clube Naval de Brasília. The event, organized by the Directorate General of Nuclear and Technological Development of the Navy (DGDNTM), was attended by Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Paolo Cesar Rezende de Carvalho Alvim, Minister of the Supreme Military Court, Fleet Admiral Leonardo Pontell, Secretary General of the Navy, Admiral Marcelo Francisco Campos, Head of Science and Army Technology, Army General Guido Amin Naves, Director of the Navy’s Technological Center in Sao Paulo, Vice Admiral (EN) Guilherme Dionizio Alves, representing the Director General of Nuclear and Technological Development of the Navy, Fleet Admiral Petronio Augusto Siqueira de Aguiar.

The ceremony was marked by the award of the “Sovereignty over Science” award 2021, and the launch of the 33rd edition of Revista Pesquisa Naval, an annual scientific journal that presents to the scientific community a set of studies developed by researchers in scientific, technological and innovative, whose topics relate to the areas of interest of the Brazilian Navy.

Established by the DGDNTM, with the aim of recognizing and rewarding work developed by researchers and/or research teams from the Navy’s scientific, technological and innovation (ICT) institutions, the award is given to the author of the work entitled “Meteorological Synoptic Letter in Editable Digital Format: Innovation Combined with Self-Quality”, Corvette Captain (T) Flávia Rodrigues Pinheiro, of the Navy Hydrography Center. Also during the event was the inauguration of the traveling exhibition “Mother of Mar Chamado Tempo: 200 Years of Technological Advancement for the Brazilian Navy”, which recounts important chapters in the history of the Navy’s technological progress throughout the twentieth century and highlights the biography of eight personalities whose leadership role was decisive in the development of the institution. Including graphic and audiovisual content, the exhibition preserves the legacy of scientific research and innovations that, over time, have improved maritime operations, shipping, and coastal protection, as well as allowing for historic advances in nuclear energy, oceanography and marine communications.

The Science, Technology and Innovation Day of the Navy is celebrated on April 22nd in celebration of the birth of its patron, Admiral Alvaro Alberto, who is responsible for the implementation of the Brazilian nuclear program and the creator of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development, in addition to the presidency of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. Admiral Alvaro Alberto, respected in academia, has long argued that “scientific and technological development are inextricably linked with the country’s prosperity.”
