Seagate announces First Line SSD for PS5 starting at $169.99 – for gaming

Seagate has announced its first line of PS5-compatible internal SSDs, starting at $169.99 in the US.

The Seagate FireCuda 530 NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen 4 SSD delivers read speeds of up to 7300 MB/s, exceeding Sony’s requirement of 5500 MB/s for a PS5 SSD.

The SSD has a slim design that allows it to be used inside the PlayStation 5 even with a built-in heatsink. The FireCuda 530 with heatsink attached will cost $169.99 for the 500GB model, $274.99 for the 1TB model, $569.99 for the 2TB model, and $1049.99 for the 4TB version.

Sony said it will soon release a PS5 update that will allow users to expand PS5 storage with a new M.2 SSD.

“We’ve been doing some testing with Sony on the PlayStation 5, and today we can confirm that the FireCuda 530 with heatsink has met all of the PS5’s requirements,” said Jeff Park, Regional Director of Seagate for Oceania. “With the PS5 design, the SSD card slot is pretty narrow, so there isn’t much room to mount an SSD. However, with the FireCuda 530—even with a heatsink on top—the slim design allows it to fit in. Of course, the FireCuda 530 without the heatsink is Thinner, so they both fit PS5″.

Sony confirmed on its support page that anyone installing an internal SSD will need to attach their own cooling frame, such as a heat sink, and that the entire frame will still need a space of 110 x 25 x 11.25 mm.
