A study based on a musical show in Spain, which aims to assess the impact of security measures against COVID-19, has shown strong evidence that tests, masks and ventilation can prevent the spread of the virus indoors.
The study, which was led by researchers at the Trias i Pujol University Hospital of Germans in Barcelona, said none of the 465 attendees at the event tested positive for a PCR test taken eight days after the show, compared to two people in the control group who did not attend. .
All attendees tested negative for Covid-19 before entering and wore masks during the parade, which was held in a well-ventilated venue in Barcelona in December. The event lasted five hours, with participants spending an average of two hours and 40 minutes inside the venue. Participants noted the physical distance and the location was at about half of its amplitude.
However, studies like this one, also conducted in Liverpool, in United kingdom“It can lead to a false sense of security,” said Julian Tang, a clinical virologist at the University of Leicester, in an emailed statement. Covid cases in Spain were low at the time of the event and more transmissible variants have emerged since then.
