US donates 1 million vaccines to Bolivia and 1 million to Paraguay – 07/08/2021

WASHINGTON, July 7 (EFE) .- Bolivia and Paraguay will receive two separate 1 million doses of vaccine against Covit-19 this week, which will be donated by the United States, the White House said Wednesday.

“We will share more with Latin America. On Thursday, we will send 1 million doses of Johnson & Johnson to Bolivia and on Friday we will send one million doses of Pfizer to Paraguay,” White House spokeswoman Jen Zaki told a news conference during a U.S. presidential flight during a trip to Illinois.

White House sources said the donation to Paraguay was a direct donation from the US government, while Bolivia was sent by the World Health Organization (WHO)’s Kovacs Federation, which aims to distribute the vaccine equally in the country.

Bolivia and Paraguay are the ninth and tenth Latin American countries, respectively, with US President Joe Biden receiving $ 80 million in vaccine donations that he has promised to share with other countries, more than 20 million of which are Latin American and Caribbean.

Ahead of Bolivia and Paraguay, the United States will send 1.5 million doses of moderna vaccine to Guatemala this Wednesday, which will arrive in Central America on Thursday.

In addition, Washington donated 3 million doses to Brazil, 1.5 million to El Salvador, 1.5 million to Honduras, 1.3 million to Mexico, 2 million to Peru, 2.5 million to Colombia and 1 million to Ecuador. 1 million vaccines this month.

Like Bolivia, donations to El Salvador and Honduras are sent via Kovacs, while those from other countries send money directly from the United States.

In this regard, an official source explained to Efe that the White House always chooses the “fastest” method of providing vaccines to every country.

“We will not share these doses to get help or benefits. Our vaccines do not come with conditions. We do this for the sole purpose of saving lives,” a White House official told Efe last week.

In addition to the countries that have already been vaccinated, the White House has pledged donations to Argentina, Uruguay, Panama, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and other Caribbean communities.

In addition to the White House’s promised 80 million dose and another 60 million AstraZeneca vaccines delivered in May, Biden revealed in June that the United States had purchased an additional 500 million doses from Pfizer / Bioendech, which will be delivered to about 100 countries over the next two years.
