Ned Petty, actor of several classic films, passed away yesterday (13). He was 83 years old and died of natural causes in Los Angeles, USA, where he was living with his family.
The information was confirmed by the actress’s agent, Deborah Miller, for the international press, as well as her daughter Blossom, in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter.
Betty first appeared in Bitter Nightmare (1972), playing Bobby Trippe, a man who was part of a group crossing a river infested with bandits. One scene in particular caught my eye: the actor’s character was raped by a criminal — and it ended up making the movie’s history.
Shortly thereafter, he played a small but significant role in Network of Plots (1976), which eventually earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his work.
Among other films, he starred in The First Superman (1978), playing the struggling sidekick of Lex Luthor, played by Gene Hackman. One of his last roles that is remembered by audiences is as the voice of Bear Lotso, the villain in Toy Story 3 (2010).
