CNPq launches award to promote women in science

The award will be divided into three categories: motivation, pathway, and institutional merit

National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) Announce Which, still in 2024, will be launched Women and Science AwardWith the aim of evaluating researchers and institutions working to promote gender equality in Brazilian science.

Coordinator of the implementation and distribution of the national and international awards at CNPq, Lisandra Santos, explains that the initiative aims not only to recognize female talent in science, but also to encourage the active participation of women in various fields of knowledge and academic professions. “In a study published by the Directorate of Results Analysis and Digital Solutions in September 2023, the low representation of women in some fields was highlighted, and the award appears as a response to change this scenario.“, he points out.

The award will be divided into three categories: Motivationtargeting scientists up to the age of 45; pathtargeting researchers over the age of 46; and Institutional meritwhich will recognize institutions with initiatives that promote gender equality in the scientific environment.

In addition to the cash prize, according to CNPq, the winners will have the opportunity to participate in international scientific events. The titling process will be carried out annually, and the rules of participation will be specified in each new notice.
