CNPq will receive an award to encourage women’s participation in science

According to the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), the aim is to launch the Women and Science Prize Notice this year, to recognize work developed by researchers and institutions that promote positive actions for them in the country.

The decree establishing the award will be published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on October 10.

The award will be divided into three categories, two of which are aimed at scientists developing related work: the Catalyst category, for those up to 45 years of age, and the Pathway category, for scientists over 46 years of age.

The third category, Institutional Merit, will reward organizations with relevant work on initiatives that promote gender equality in science.

The award will be honored through cash prizes, in addition to trips that allow participation in international conferences and the exchange of knowledge between female scientists from all over the world. The editions will be annual, and rules will be established with each edition.

The first editions will be launched through a partnership between the Ministries of Science, Technology, Innovation and Women with the British Council in Brazil, a cultural cooperation organization between the UK and Brazil.
