International correspondent for globeRaquel Krahenbuhl, 41, faced an extremely dangerous situation on Wednesday (9/10) while covering Hurricane Milton, which hit Florida in the US.
In a video recorded in Orlando, Raquel was almost swept away by the force of strong winds that preceded the arrival of the storm.
“Look, the wind almost knocked us down, because the hurricane hasn’t arrived yet,” Raquel commented as she struggled to maintain her balance. The city of Orlando, located about 250 kilometers from the worst-hit area, is still feeling the effects of the approaching hurricane with violent winds.
Safety measures and calm in the midst of the storm
Even in the face of a dangerous situation, Raquel made sure to reassure viewers about the safety conditions there. She explained that her team is in a hotel, ready to take shelter underground if necessary.
“We are in a secure hotel, and if necessary we will go underground. We are here under cover, so I only have a little protection from the rain. Let’s record this video and then we will go inside to protect ourselves,” Raquel said in a calm tone.
Hurricane Milton advances over Florida
The city of Tampa, one of the areas closest to Hurricane Milton’s path, was most affected by the wind gusts.
While some cities are under curfew starting at 8 p.m., the Globo team visited Lakeland, one of the places expected to be hit hard by the hurricane. The city has already turned into a “ghost town,” with all residents evacuated and the streets cleared, in preparation for the arrival of the storm.
