IFMT launches a higher education course in data science and artificial intelligence in partnership with a university in Portugal

The Federal Institute of Mato Grosso (IFMT) has announced the launch of the 2025 Higher Technology Course in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, offered by Campus Várzea Grande in partnership with the University of Beira Interior (UBI) in Portugal. The course will also include part of the activities developed at the Mato Grosso Technology Park. Upon completion of the programme, students will receive a dual degree valid in Brazil and Portugal.

With 35 places planned for the first semester of 2025, the course will be taught primarily in the new IFMT robotics laboratory, which will be installed at the technology park in collaboration with the state government, UFMT and Unemat. Students will have the opportunity to carry out part of the training at Campus Várzea Grande and another part in Portugal, at UBI.

The educational project aims to prepare professionals with a strong background in mathematics, computer science and statistics, as well as comprehensive knowledge in the fields of artificial intelligence and data science. The training will also include developing strategies for dealing with different types of data and mastering basic concepts in this field.

This course is the result of a technical visit by the IFMT management team to Portugal in 2023. On this occasion, technical cooperation agreements were signed with a focus on staff qualification, entrepreneurship and technological innovation. The agreement to offer the course was one of the main outcomes of this initiative.

The Artificial Intelligence and Data Science course is widely attended at Beira Interior University and has a team of highly qualified teachers.
