The Emergency Care Unit (UPA 24 hours), in Mafra, has received service reinforcements with the arrival of medical graduates from the University of Contestado (UNC). Although consultations are conducted by academics, they are accompanied and supervised by a doctor/professor.
The unit is now supported by students starting their medical training. Among the main activities that students will undertake are consulting patients, providing emergency care, performing sutures and examining cases that require more attention.
Physician and Professor Mariana da Cruz, student coordinator, confirms that integration will contribute to increasing the quality of care. “For patients, the service experience will be the same. The difference will be the additional support in setting up the diagnosis and in the technical communication with those who attend the unit.
According to Mariana, the 24-hour UPA will serve as a learning space for academics, who will test procedures, systems and referrals in practice, facilitating the training of future professionals. At the same time, society will benefit from increased quality and quantity of care.
