October 2024 Caravan promotes astronomy and art in the interior of Bahia – Ipolitica

From October 8 to 17, the Astronomical Observatory of the State University of Santa Cruz (UESC) will be circulated with Cometa Ciência & Arte, to teach and disseminate astronomy. The caravan will travel about 2,000 kilometers to present its shows in 6 cities in the following regions of Bahia: Central South, Central North.

Squares, schools and public spaces welcome Cometa Ciência & Arte to celebrate the connection between humans and the universe, through telescopes, lasers, planetariums and educational games. The attractions are interspersed with performance artists, theatrical drawings and songs. Above all, the local community has a space to bring their ideas, art and knowledge about the sky that guides us in time, space and spirituality.

The observatory also offers a practical mini-course in astronomy targeting 30 teachers from each city visited, culminating in a musical session of observing the sky with the naked eye. At the end of the event, teachers receive educational game sets to be developed in their schools.

Those interested in receiving a visit from the observatory in their city should register for a short training course by entering the link https://forms.gle/g3BVmGA3Ph1iT5cS7.

Cometa Ciência & Arte draws on more than 15 years of experience in promoting dialogue between science, art and technology, with the aim of cultivating scientific curiosity, social and environmental awareness, critical thinking, welcoming attitudes towards human diversity and raising awareness about the relationship between man, the sky and the universe.

The UESC Astronomical Observatory team will hold Cometa Ciência & Arte events in all regions of the state of Bahia in 2024. From November onwards, the caravan should travel through Rio Grande do Norte and other northeastern states. The project is implemented by the State University of Santa Cruz through the Dean of Extension, with funding from CNPq/Federal Government.
