UNIVALE’s work stands out at the 1st Brazilian Citizens’ Scientific Meeting

the First Scientific Meeting of Brazilian Citizens This summit was held from the 10th to the 12th of this month, in São Bernardo do Campo, to discuss this form of knowledge production where scientists with an academic career carry out studies in partnership with people interested in science, but who do not have links with institutions. for teaching or research. Represented by two professors and a graduate of the Master’s degree in Integrated Territorial Management (GIT), UNIVALE participated in the meeting with seven works – one of which, presented by Professor Renata Campos, was ranked third among the papers entered in the oral communication category.

“Over the course of these days we have presented seven works, five of which were in the form of banners or posters, and two others were oral. One of these oral presentations is the result of our partnership with UFOP and UFJF. This work that I presented was ranked third among the oral communications. We are very happy to be back in Valadares, because seven works is an important number for the laboratory, and we have also received this recognition for what we produce, and this award, which gives us, without a doubt, a great deal of visibility, within this network of “citizen science”, said the teacher.

The work presented is part of the research carried out by the Citizen Laboratory for Disease Ecology and Area Health (LEAS), coordinated by Renata and Professor Hernani Santana, who is also the coordinator Civil and Environmental Engineering Course At the university. Hernani also participated in the first scientific meeting of Brazilian citizens, in addition, as UNIVALE, a graduate of the University of Digestive systemEloisa Maria Ferreira de Almeida. “Eloisa had a scholarship at the University of Lis for a large part of her master’s degree, and she also came to present the results of her research in the form of a thesis,” Renata added.

About the First Brazilian Citizens Scientific Meeting

Organized by the Brazilian Citizen Science Network (RBCC), an entity founded in 2021 to expand the dialogue between the various social actors involved in this field of knowledge, the first meeting was hosted on the campus of the Federal University of ABC, in São Bernardo do Campo. The theme “What is the citizen science we want?” was chosen to guide the discussions. “The first Brazilian citizen science meeting aims to start a process of strengthening the field of citizen science in the country, within the missions and objectives set forth in the RBCC, and to discuss in a strategic and democratic way the direction of this field of research and practice in Brazil,” say the event organizers.
