In search of the hexagon and with the intention of breaking a 12-year fast without winning the prize World Cup FutsalBrazil made their debut at the 2024 edition, which was held in Uzbekistan, beating Cuba 10-0 on Saturday at the Bukhara Sports Complex. Marcel and Marlon were the standout players of the match, each scoring three goals.
The defeat in the first match confirms Brazil’s advantage in Group B, which also saw Thailand beat Croatia 2-1. The current champions, Portugal, will make their debut only on Monday, against Parana. In Colombia, Argentina will face Ukraine on Sunday.
Arthur started the game very well, making a nice move down the right and setting up Niginho to score nine minutes before half-time. Brazil’s third goal came in a similar move. This time, it was Marlon who fired the ball into an empty net. The team were so comfortable on the pitch that Felipe Valerio received it from the left, brought it inside and fired low for another goal. There, William made a fine save from close range on a Cuban counterattack.
The second half was a rollercoaster ride for Brazil, who scored their fifth goal 17 minutes from time with a superb strike from Marcel. The goal dampened Cuba’s spirits, who began to watch Brazil. The sixth goal was a matter of time and came from a long-range shot from Marlon.
A missed goal from the best player in the world, who decided to leave his mark with a stroke of genius. He dribbled over the mark with his right foot and scored the seventh goal. The “waiter of the match” scored the eighth goal. Arthur sewed up the mark and increased the score in favor of Brazil: 8-0.
Brazil showed great collective strength, scoring the ninth goal with Marcel, after a beautiful exchange of passes. Defeat was announced by a wonderful backheel from Marlon, which included a mistake from Perez. In the end, Marlon barely managed to do another one on a bicycle.
Brazil returns to the pitch on Tuesday, at 12 noon Brasilia time, to face Croatia, at the Bukhara Sports Arena in Uzbekistan. On the same day and in the same place, Copa takes on Thailand, at 9:30 a.m.
