Crash Bandicoot 5, which was canceled, will have a crossover with Spyro the Dragon

Details have emerged regarding the game, which has reportedly been discontinued in favor of focusing on games as a service.

According to new information regarding Crash Bandicoot 5, which was released on DidYouKnowGaming (via VGC), Crash Bandicoot 5 will include a crossover with Spyro the Dragon, offering adventure and characters from both franchises.

The game was in the early stages of development when it was cancelled, with Activision reportedly making the decision because they did not take into account that Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time had sold enough despite selling over 5 million copies.

Also contributing to the cancellation was Activision’s focus on games as a service, which led developer Toys for Bob to provide support for titles like Overwatch 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone, which also caused the project involving Crash Team Rumble to become a game-like service. Reusing material from Crash Bandicoot 4.

Following the release of Crash 4, Toys for Bob appears to have created a small group of developers whose goal was to work on the future of the franchise, in a project that would be referred to internally as Crash Bandicoot 5. Published information claims that it was a 3D platformer, single-player game and a direct sequel to the previous title.

Players will reportedly be able to play as both Crash and Spyro in an adventure involving interdimensional threats in both characters’ worlds, with villains from both series present.

Unfortunately for fans, this project will sadly never see the light of day.
