British billionaire Mike Lynch, 59, is among six people missing when his chartered luxury yacht sank during rough seas off Porticello, on the Italian island of Sicily, where he was moored, in the early hours of Monday – The Guardian (19).
The rescue operation involved divers from the maritime police, helicopters, coastguard boats, firefighters and civil defense. Italians. The luxury Bayesian vessel was built in 2008 by Italian company Perini Navi and carried a total of 10 crew members and 12 passengers, from Germany, Antigua, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Ireland, Myanmar and New Zealand. It was 56 metres long and had a single 75-metre mast, the world’s longest made of aluminium. Citing a specialist website, the Associated Press news agency reported that its charter was listed at up to $215,000 (1.17 million Brazilian reals) a week.
