How many games are exclusive to current-gen consoles, namely PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S? To be honest, not many, despite the fact that less than four years have passed since the launch of the ninth generation. The statement was made by user LeGamer, who opened a page on Backloggd specifically to show that we are facing an anomalous generation in relation to the past.
Now it’s fair to point out that by current-gen console games, LeGamer means all those titles that don’t have, didn’t have, and won’t have versions for previous-gen consoles. So, all titles that also have versions for PS4 and Xbox One are excluded.
Additionally, for Xbox Series X|S we have Avowed or Wolverine for PS5, but they haven’t been released yet, as the list also includes games that have only been announced for PS5 and Xbox Series.
However, in total we only have 121 games have been released or are about to be released exclusively. For current generation consoles, which drops below 100 If we remove games that have not yet hit the shelves at the time of writing, some are imminent, like Black Myth Wukong or Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
In short, we are talking about a weak generation in terms of the number of exclusive releases, where the old ones are still holding on, in a generational change that has lasted longer than in the past. It should also be noted that among the games listed there are remakes and remasters, which reduces the total number even more (especially for Playstation which is more of a fan of this practice), if we only want to consider really new games.
