An inquiry regarding IRPF refund can be made in two main ways:

Via the Federal Revenue website

  • Access the site: Visit Website from federal revenues;
  • Go to “My Income Tax”: Click on the section dedicated to Income Tax;
  • Select “Check Refund”: Choose the option to check the status of your refund.

The page allows for simplified and complete consultation. If any outstanding issue is identified, taxpayers have the option to amend the declaration to correct the information.

Through the Federal Revenue Application

The Federal Revenue app, available in major app stores for smartphones and tablets, also allows you to monitor the status of your refund. Download the app (Android, Internal Control Department), log in and access the inquiry section to check the status of your refund.

Deadline for submitting the advertisement

The deadline for submitting the income tax return is May 31, 2024. Those who do not submit the return within the specified deadline may face a penalty of 1% per month on the tax due, for a minimum of R$ 165. Up to a maximum of 20% of the tax due.

Extension of Rio Grande do Sul

Due to the heavy rains that affected Rio Grande do Sul, the Federal Revenue Service has extended the deadline for filing the declaration until August 31 for taxpayers residing in the 336 affected municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul. The complete list of municipalities covered can be found on the Federal Revenue website.

The income tax refund is calculated based on the taxpayer’s annual income. The Federal Revenue assesses the tax due by taking into account total income during the year and allowable deductions, such as health and education expenses.

Taxes and Discounts

The 2024 schedule specifies rates and deductions based on annual income:

  • Up to R$24,511.92: tax free, no discount;
  • From R$24,511.93 to R$33,919.80: 7.5% rate and R$1,838.39 discount;
  • From R$33,919.81 to R$45,012.60: 15% rate and R$4,382.38 discount;
  • From R$45,012.61 to R$55,976.16: 22.5% rate and R$7,758.32 discount;
  • More than R$55,976.16: 27.5% rate and R$10,557.13 discount.

The refund is calculated by subtracting the tax already paid from the tax due. If the amount paid is greater than the amount due, the taxpayer will receive the difference as a refund. If it is less, the taxpayer will have to pay the difference.

Final Considerations

The fourth batch of 2024 income tax refunds is approaching, and it is important for taxpayers to pay attention to payment dates and methods to ensure they receive the amount due without any problems.

Use the FRS counseling tools to monitor the status of your refund and take the opportunity to correct any outstanding issues with your return. Pay attention to the timeline so you don’t miss the deadline and maximize the benefits of your refund.
