Avaí draw with Amazonas in Series B in a match marked by a missed penalty kick

Avai drew 1-1 with Amazonas on Sunday morning (30), at the Rescada Stadium, in Florianópolis, in a match marked by a penalty miss in the second half of the 13th round of the Brazilian Second Division.

Playing at home and with a chance to go top of the table, Leão da Ilha started the match by dominating possession in an attempt to find space in the opposition defence.

But it was Amazonas who opened the scoring after 15 minutes. On that occasion, Ênio managed to get into the area, made a good move on the left side of the attack and sent a cross into Joe’s head. The assistant scored an offside goal, but the move was later disproven.

It didn’t take long and Avai was able to equalize. Marcus Vinicius hit a low free kick to the edge of the penalty area, then Thiago Bagnosat hit a powerful shot, bringing the two teams to a draw in the 20th minute of the first half.

Shortly after, Garces found Higor inside the area, who scored, but Marcao came to Amazonas’ rescue in the 24th minute.

Jaguar created another chance in the 44th minute of the first half through good play from Matheus Seraphim, who dribbled past two opponents and came face-to-face with goalkeeper Cesar, who appeared to avoid Amazonas’ second goal of the match.

The second half was marked by a missed penalty kick

Once again, Higor had the opportunity to score the lead goal in the 13th minute of the second half from a quick attack on the right side, but the Azzurra striker missed the goal.

In the 22nd minute, Avai players requested a handball from defender Diogo Silva after a collision in the penalty area. The referee ordered the match to continue, but it was called by VAR and the move was deemed a penalty kick. Joao Paulo fired the ball into the left corner of Marcao’s goal, who stretched to defend.

Matheus Seraphim created another good chance for Amazonas after dribbling past defender Mario Sergio and slotting it into the left corner for Cesar, who made a fine save to save Leao da Ilha.

With this draw, Avai reaches 23 points and temporarily takes the lead. Now, Leão da Ilha needs to hope for a defeat against América-MG and a slip-up against Operário-PR and Vila Nova in the round to remain in first place. Amazonas reaches 16 points and moves up to 13th place, but it can change its position until the end of the round.

Avaí’s next match will be against Novorizontino on Monday of next week (8), at 8 p.m., at Resacada, in Florianópolis. On the same day, at 9 p.m., Amazonas hosts Vila Nova at Carlos Zamiz Stadium, in Manaus (morning).
